Apple Wallet
Apple Wallet supports state digital IDs, driver licenses, and US passports on iPhone and Apple Watch. The feature requires iOS 15.4 or later, and is accepted at select TSA checkpoints and participating businesses.
What you can add
- State driver license (selected states)
- State ID card
- US passport
What you need
- iPhone with iOS 15.4 or later
- Apple Watch (optional — some states support it)
- A participating state (see state list below)
- A REAL ID-compliant driver license or state ID card
Setup steps
Adding a state driver's license or ID
- 1 Open the Wallet app on your iPhone (iOS 15.4 or later required).
- 2 Tap the + button in the top right corner.
- 3 Select 'Driver's License or State ID'.
- 4 Choose your state from the list.
- 5 Scan the front and back of your physical driver's license or ID.
- 6 Complete the face and motion scan to verify your identity.
- 7 Your state DMV processes the request — approval typically takes a few minutes.
Adding a US passport
- 1 Open the Wallet app on your iPhone (iOS 16 or later required).
- 2 Tap the + button in the top right corner.
- 3 Select 'Passport'.
- 4 Scan the photo page of your US passport using your iPhone's camera.
- 5 Complete the face scan to verify your identity.
- 6 Apple processes your passport — it will appear in your wallet once verified.
Participating states
Driver's license or state ID holders in these states can add their ID to Apple Wallet:
- Arizona
- Arkansas
- California
- Colorado
- Georgia
- Hawaii
- Illinois
- Iowa
- Maryland
- Montana
- New Mexico
- North Dakota
- Ohio
- Puerto Rico
- West Virginia
Accepted where?
TSA airport security checkpoints (select airports), and merchants and venues that accept Apple Wallet IDs.
