Samsung Wallet

Samsung Wallet supports state digital IDs on Samsung Galaxy phones in select states, and US passports through Samsung ID with CLEAR — a free digital ID backed by your US passport and verified by CLEAR. It's separate from a paid CLEAR+ airport membership and works for any US passport holder. It uses the same underlying ISO 18013-5 mDL standard as Apple and Google Wallet, and is accepted at more than 250 TSA checkpoints. (Reminder: TSA still recommends carrying a REAL ID-compliant document when you fly.)

What you need

  • Samsung Galaxy phone with Samsung Wallet app
  • Android 9.0 or later
  • Samsung account
  • A valid US passport (for Samsung ID with CLEAR), or a participating state (for state IDs)

Setup steps

Adding a US passport (Samsung ID with CLEAR)

  1. 1 Make sure you have a valid US passport handy.
  2. 2 Open the 'Quick Access' tab in Samsung Wallet.
  3. 3 Tap the + button.
  4. 4 Select 'Digital IDs'.
  5. 5 Select 'Samsung ID with CLEAR'.
  6. 6 Tap 'Get Card' and follow the prompts to scan your passport and verify your identity with CLEAR.
  7. 7 Once verified, your Samsung ID with CLEAR is ready to use at participating TSA checkpoints with a tap or QR scan.

Adding a state driver's license or ID

  1. 1 Open the Samsung Wallet app on your Galaxy phone.
  2. 2 Tap + to add a new item.
  3. 3 Select 'Digital IDs', then choose your state.
  4. 4 Scan the front and back of your physical driver's license or ID.
  5. 5 Complete the selfie and liveness verification.
  6. 6 Your state DMV processes the request — approval typically takes a few minutes.

Driver's license or state ID holders in these states can add their ID to Samsung Wallet:

  • Arizona
  • Arkansas
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Georgia
  • Iowa
  • Maryland
  • West Virginia

Accepted where?

More than 250 TSA airport security checkpoints (with Samsung ID with CLEAR), select sporting venues including BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, and locations that accept ISO 18013-5 mDLs. State ID acceptance varies by state.
