Digital ID available

California supports digital ID in both Apple Wallet and Google Wallet. You must have a California REAL ID-compliant driver license or ID card.

Apple Wallet Available

1 Make sure your iPhone is running iOS 17 or later.
2 Open the Wallet app and tap the + button in the top right.
3 Tap 'Driver's License or State ID' and select California.
4 Follow the prompts to scan the front and back of your physical ID.
5 Complete the face scan to verify your identity.
6 Your ID will be submitted to the California DMV for approval — this typically takes a few minutes.

Google Wallet Available

1 Make sure your Android device is running Android 9 or later.
2 Open the Google Wallet app and tap the + button.
3 Tap 'ID documents' and select 'Driver's license or state ID'.
4 Select California from the list.
5 Scan the front and back of your California driver license or ID.
6 Complete the selfie verification step.
7 Your submission goes to the California DMV — approval usually arrives within a few minutes.

Samsung Wallet Not available

CA DMV Wallet Available

1 Download the CA DMV Wallet app from the App Store or Google Play.
2 Sign in or create a DMV account.
3 Follow the prompts to scan the front and back of your California driver's license or ID.
4 Complete the identity verification selfie.
5 Your digital ID will appear in the app once the California DMV approves it.
